In 2015 Sergey Melnitchenko, a native Ukraine, moved to Chengdu, China and got a job as a dancer in of many of the city`s nightclubs. After 4 years working in an unnamed club, moved by what he saw, he decided to capture the secrets of this place by photographing performers. By doing so, he started a process that led him deep into the real lives of people who were dancers, singers, slaves and clowns.
It turned out that behind the scenes, life was more burlesque than the one on stage.
