This whole thing started from one Twitter post from someone that apparently sells hemp syrup for a living. His tweet made people to believe that the first lady standing beside President Trump on one of his latest public appearance wasn’t the first lady, but a body double. As evidence he compared an older image of the first lady with the new one.
Since his claim got a lot of public attention the East Wing had to dismiss this obvious falsehood and insure everyone that the first lady doesn’t have a body double.
The East Wing communication director, Stephanie Grisham, gave the following statement for CNN:
Once again, we find ourselves consumed with a ridiculous non-story when we could be talking about the work the first lady is doing on behalf of children, including the opioid crisis that is gripping our nation.
After this story was proved to be false, the internet still continued to roar and conspiracy theorists latched on. Lots of “suspicious” photographs started to pop up everyone like the one where Melania is followed by a Secret Service agent that looks very similar to her, which is obviously a coincidence.
Even Jonathan Wackrow, a former Secret Service agent (who has served on the first family detail) and a CNN contributor said that the United States Secret Service doesn’t use body doubles.
He continued by saying that the first lady`s lead agent maybe looks a bit like her, but she is much shorter and she has been on the President’s protection team since Trump took office. As lead agent, she was also assigned to the Obama family, which made her a good fit. Furthermore, a male agent could have been as easily assigned.
There are different dynamics in the both the optics and the response when it comes to comparing the President’s detail with the first lady’s. “Those are the sorts of details considered, not at all whether an agent is some sort of body double, he said.
If you are still not convinced , make sure you check Melania`s Trump next appearance this Friday.
