Allaire Bartel is a brilliant photographer who wanted to clarify the term Male Entitlement by using visual language and creating a series of photographs. According to the artists women often experience oppression in subtler moments not just in acts of physical and sexual violence.
In the context of my project, [male entitlement] came to mean a situation in which the man felt in-control and safe while his actions made the woman feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and in order to keep the peace, protect her job, etc. the woman did not speak up about her discomfort.” says the artist.
In order to make a strong point the artist used male hands to personify the psychological and physical impacts of navigating “a man`s world.”
Bartel`s super real photos show women groped by male hands in the middle of everyday situations like preparing breakfast or walking down the street.
