People always relate “s*xual assault” to women as victims, but as you will see from this heartbreaking photo series, that`s not always the case.

In 2011 a New York photography student by the name of Grace Brown created a project called  “Unbreakable,” to give voice to the victims of s*xual assault and raise awareness. These powerful pictures feature real survivors who are holding signs with quotes from their attackers.

Recently he decided to re-publish his work on his Instagram account with the following statement: ” We won’t stay silent – not for the oppressed, not for the marginalized, not for anyone.”

Why sensor the E in sexual assault… it just adds to the stigma, like we shouldn’t be saying or seeing it.

I was sexually abused and bullied in middle school and was told by my abusers “you like this!”

When I turned them in I get the reply “just ignore them” and “boys will be boys”

I think men suffer greater anxiety and shame from sexual abuse because it’s like an attack on their manhood. All sexual abuse, on women and men, is an act of cowardice.

Richard Derus

My mother was my nightmare. So warm and sweet to others, a raging tornado of emotional abuse to me. Then sex entered the tortures. “You make me sick!” she’d say if I didn’t want to “you little fag*ot” and on and on.

Very brave men to speak out about the terrible ordeal they went through. Men should be encouraged more to speak out and tell someone and people should listen and help them. As someone already pointed out, abuse knows no gender. It is not okay to rape a man.
