This Sudanese model is teaching people not to be afraid of the dark after she took down the barriers of conventional beauty. Now, she`s encouraging others to do the same thing.
Nyakim Gatwech who now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota feels proud of her melanin and wants the whole world to know about it! “My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors!”
She has also shared some unpleasant experiences, especially one with an Uber driver who suggested she try and “bleach” her skin. “You won’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”
Today she is proud to be an advocate for diversity in the fashion industry and also an advocate for Black rights. People referred to her as “Queen of the Dark” and she proudly carries the nickname.
The message is simple and clear: People should accept and love the skin they are in, no matter the color or shade!
