These signs are currently in use at a local restaurant in Dallas.
Dom DiFurio, a Dallas Morning News editor, posted a disturbing image of the bathroom doors at Dodie’s Place Cajun Bar & Grill. As you can see both doors were “decorated” with pre- and post-transition photos of the transgender celebrity to point out the women`s and men`s rooms. I guess someone thought this is funny.
The man’s room door has a photo of Jenner from the 1976 Montreal Games, when she won the Olympic gold it the decathlon, and the photo on the women`s room door featured her Vanity Fair cover.
The photos of the bathroom doors have been in use since August which is clearly visible from the restaurant`s Facebook account.
According to DiFUrio the area where the restaurant is seated it’s not considered as a great place to be LGBTQ.
Sadly, the inappropriate use of these photos is another sign of the internal struggle many transgender individuals still face. People don`t realize that being transgender is much more that switching genders. Their psychological and emotional journey is far more complex and taxing.
It`s 2017 and still the hate against the LGBTQ community is strong and widespread. In fact, according to the United Press International, transgender adults were “14 times more likely to think about suicide and 22 times more likely to attempt suicide than the general public.”
So far, the restaurant hasn`t released any official statement and as far as we know the signs are still in use.
