There is no doubt that this movement is misguided in its understanding of feminism, but the fact that it`s giving feminism a bad reputation is even worse.
An April 2013 poll found that 83% of all Americans agreed with the following statement: “Men and women should be social, political, and economic equals.” This is probably one of the simplest definitions of feminism we need. Now feminism is seen as anti-men, radical, liberal… and many other things that it’s simply not!
This movement and others alike are saddled with limited and unnecessary prerequisites that distort the true meaning of feminism. At the end, maybe this is just another wake up call to remind us how, after all this time, feminism in still poorly misunderstood.
One thing is for sure, we need to continue to advocate for equality between men and women and we also need to remind the world what feminism entails, rather than have someone else define our movement for us.
